Thanks for your encouraging words :D

I only recently switched to 100% Inkscape, I love to write tutorials and these 2 factors will keep me busy for a while. Constructive critisism is welcome as it will benefit all.

Very good tutorials Syllie. :D
They are going to help me out for awhile to come.

If you are after suggestions on other tutorials - my suggestion be for a "tech background" tutorial done similar to these:

I love that vintage 3D graphic style.

Thanks for the suggestion Inky Hands!

These effects are very easy to do in Inkscape, and I was already contemplating a tutorial for an abstract website header, might as well make that a wallpaper one.

I have some time on my hands too, so keep an eye on the site and expect some tutorial using similar effects in a short while.

Edit: as I nowadays live in Oz, and it is almost Australia Day - I decided to do a mock-up for a tutorial loosely based on the first image in that spirit. Tutorial will be published on our site tomorrow after final brush up, but I post a sneak preview of the result here:

I will address the line effect too. Inkscape has very cool features to do that, using interpolate.

Syllie

First of all, thanks for these tutorials. You've got some great design work in there.

I just wanted to make a short comment on the perspective section of Australia abstract wallpaper tutorial. In that section, after drawing the rectangle that will provide the perspective, and then moving the corners around, you say:
Select the star traced country object and rotate it 90 degrees counter-clockwise. The perspective extension somehow changes the orientation of the object and we want it to come out right.

What's happening is that the perspective extension considers the "first" node of the rectangle to represent the lower-left corner of the bounding box of the object being smooshed. But when you draw a rectangle using the rectangle tool and then convert it to a path, the "first" node is the upper-left corner of the rectangle. (You can find out which node is the first node by selecting the object with the Node tool and then pressing Tab. The first node gets selected first.) The extension sees that on your guide rectangle you have the first node in the upper-left, so it rotates your smoosh-object so that it's lower-left corner is now the upper-left corner. Then it performs the distortion.

I'm not sure if I worded that clearly. The Inkscape manual has a better explanation, with pictures, in the Perspective section of the Extensions chapter: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Extensions-ModifyPath.html#Extensions-Perspective

Kelan,

Thanks for that addition! I think I have read the guide cover to cover a zillion times over the last few years, but I did not refer to it at all when I wrote this tutorial.
I should have know that there is a proper explanation for the rotation and I will update the tutorial to reflect this.

Cheers,
Syllie
