Setting language

Postby knobelkatze » Fri May 22, 2009 10:28 pm

Hello

--> Question:
How can I set the language of inkscape to English ?

--> Background
Because of troubles with the "regular" version 0.46 I installed the "developer version". Now the menus are mixed between German and English. I don't care about the languages but I don't like this mishmash.

You can set the language in the preferences, on the "interface" tab. You're probably seeing English words being used for parts that have been added recently and which have therefore not yet been translated. This will probably be fixed in our v0.47 release.

You're welcome! Maybe you didn't find out because it's only been implemented a few months ago, so you cannot switch languages easily in v0.46 and before.

In any case: You helped me. Thanks
(If there is any translation job in inkscape (or anything other) from English to German let me know: My German is a little better than my English ;-)

Any help in translation is welcome of course! If not for the user interface then certainly for the tutorials, website and who knows what else. For more information visit the wiki:

Well, how do you do it? My interface is 95% English and 5% Serbian. I am from Croatia, and system settings on my computer are set to Croatian, so I don't know how did Inkscape set itself to Serbian (they are similar languages, but not the same). Maybe the Serbian translation is somehow saved as Croatian by mistake. I would prefer full English interface rather than this. How can I change it to English without installing the developer version?

Thanks!

BTW, sorry about thread mining :)

Although it's not the most elegant solution, I used to simply delete the directory containing the language I didn't want. On Windows, I think it's in c:\program files\inkscape\locale\XXXX or something similar.

Thanks, it works!
I have moved files from the "locale" folder to the desktop just in case, and now the Inkscape is in English.

Bok Andy0101! :)

I also use the en version of Inkscape (or any other program), I'm very slow with native lang application interfaces.

I'm not sure but I don't think there was a translator from Croatia, maybe the one from Serbia, Bosnia or even Slovenia did some work on the hr file. But until someone from Croatia puts work into it it won't make much difference ;)
