A question about text on path
I know how this works since my Gimp days, but there is one aspect i dont quite understand:
when i put the text on a circle and then flip the path, the text position is changed to the inside of the circle.
Its like the path has been turned inside out.
I know that paths have a direction, but this behaviour seems different.
Can somebody explain what the logic behind that is, please ?

Re: A question about text on path
Probably one of the nodes is handled as a start-end node. Most likely the left one.
By flipping horizontally it changes from left to tight.
Hmm by second glance the bottom node is double, maybe that is the start-end node?
By flipping vertically the length of the path for the text positioning is calculated as if not just the direction change.

Yeah, its a habit of mine: i split the node and change the alignment of the text to centered.
Im not sure i understand.
When i flip a circle, the top becomes the bottom. Not the outside becomes the inside.

Re: A question about text on path
I dont get it.
So 'pattern along a path' and 'text on a path' are the same thing, except that 'text on a path' preserves its text properties for editing purposes, right ?
Your example still dont helps me understand why the text gets to the inside of the path, instead of going from top to bottom...
Does a path have an inside and an outside ? And flipping reverses that ?
Instead i would expect this behaviour:

Re: A question about text on path
Paths have start/end or a direction which implies two sides. If it was a river, the text is written on the left shore.
Getting to those results in your example above can be achieved if the object is grouped and the group is flipped instead of the path.
Preserving live editability and getting to "reversed" text is maybe not a common need.

Yeah but flipping a path does a) instead of b)....

It is intentional.
For b), you need grouping.

*scratches head*
something about that doesnt click for me...
flipping a path is turning it inside out, thats like space-time warping....*argh*

Re: A question about text on path
Esper, when you flip the path, you change its direction. Clockwise to counter-clockwise or the other way around.
As the text position depends on the path direction, it will be on the other side of the path afterwards. Try it out with the directional path markers switched on in the node tool (node tool preferences).

I did as you can see in the first screenshot.
That doesnt explain how the outside gets to the inside.
I guess it has something to do with a path being a mathematical formula.

By flipping/reversing directions the left/right sides change.
Text is not assigned to the inside/outside of a shape but to the left side of the path.

I think i get it. But i find it very weird.
Re: A question about text on path
Just wonder how you can get the text on the outside bottom of the circle (from left to right), I don't seem to be able to make it happen.
