anyone use inkscape/gimp to seperat images for screen print
anyone use inkscape/gimp to seperat images for screen print. in specific i am asking about multi screen prints with a halftone effect for screen printing. i have done hundreds of vector 1-6 color screen seperations but now i have the challenge of making a halftone screen for some art that has gradients and fades. any input apreciated. thanks

Hi Kid
I suspect some members have either done that, or know how. But if time goes on, and no replies, could you describe the process and how it's different from what you were doing before?
Also, are you aware of this relatively new extension (I'd say it's been out for a couple of years) viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5943. (Note that there's a newer version mentioned in the 2nd page of the topic.)
Oh ok, I just looked up halftone. I would guess that you need GIMP to make the halftone color. I haven't looked at the CMYK extension closely, so I don't know if it offers halftones or not (although I guess not). Anyway, now that I know what halftone looks like, I wonder why it not as simple as selecting the object and clicking some halftone button?? Or maybe I've got the wrong definition (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halftone)??

bryn i think you have the general idea of a halftone. in gimp you can use the filter>distorts>newsprint and adjust the cmyk screens as needed. but the image remains rgb!? my problem is that gimp doesn seem to have a cmyk conversion under image>mode>> there is rgb, greyscale and indexed. as far as
looks like this has some good info. im going to look into it a little harder.

Off topic but might help the OP.
Gimp and CMYK is a bit of a minefield.
There is a short demo here (best in HD mode) about 4 mins.

The separate+ plugin(s) for Windows are for Gimp 2.6 and due to some dll renaming need a little tweak if used with Gimp 2.8
see: http://gimpforums.com/thread-separate-p ... esn-t-show
Jonatas outputpro extension for Inkscape is excellent but to date it only outputs to CMYK jpeg and is in Portuguese.
Imagemagick will take a Gimp RGB file and convert it to CMYK, not quite sure of the OP's intensions on the printing side.
