Hi,
I'm new to Inkscape. I just installed it on my Ubuntu laptop and I noticed this screenshot on the inkscape website with a darker skin than the stock one. I really like to use dark skin since it won't disturb my eyes from the canvas (I use it that way when doing video editing and 3d work). The screenshot I'm talking about:
I tried doing it on my own, but I could even find any preferences or anything.
Thanks in advance,
Arnar.
How to change skins/themes?
Re: How to change skins/themes?
You can only change icon sets as far as Inkscape goes, but I think to get the dark theme you need to use that theme on your entire system.
I recognize the titlebar font though, it's Fontin. just hand over the chocolate and nobody gets hurt

Re: How to change skins/themes?
Hey friends i just got my new interface for Inkscape. "The Dark Interface for Inkscape", "The Dark Skin for Inkscape", "The Dark Theme for Inkscape". Download the attached zip file which contains the new grey "icons.svg" and the "gtkrc" file.
Replace the icons.svg file in
"C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\icons".
And replace the file "gtkrc" file in the all inkspace sub directories:
0) C:\Program Files\Inkscape\etc\gtk-2.0 ( Most Important to replace )
1) C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\themes\Default\gtk-2.0-key
2) C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\themes\Emacs\gtk-2.0-key
3) C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\themes\MS-Windows\gtk-2.0
4) C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\themes\Raleigh\gtk-2.0

Nice skin! Exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
(surprised there are no other comments on this. nice work)
Re: How to change skins/themes?
Nice skin...
However, it has some visual issues:
- firstly, of course, it needs new icons for 0.91
- some texts and icons have low contrast thus become illegible
These are some examples:

Re: How to change skins/themes?
I've modified the icon file, and have added the missing icons, and done some slight tweakings.
I'm not using the dark theme mentionned above.
Issues (on my Windows computer): file icons (open, save etc) are still in color. I suppose they come from the gtk theme, I'm not sure.
See attachment to download the icons file.
Note: the file contains alternative versions of some icons, by the original author. You can activate/deactivate icons by modifying the object ID of the original one and the new one (right click on an object > Object Properties). I have chosen to use Inkscape's original Tweak tool icon and Gradient tool icon for example.

Re: How to change skins/themes?
I upgraded to 0.91 the other day, and now the dark theme is broken. It will not load.
I repeated the steps above - changed out the icons.svg - placed gtkrc in all the appropriate directories.
I also tried out the new icons.svg from the post above me. Did something change in the skins implementation in 0.91
that we should be aware of?

Re: How to change skins/themes?
Any updates on that for Windows? It would be nice to have some proper GTK theme but for now I would like to at least get rid of the violet gradient galore Windows 7 puts on Inkscape. The option to disable theming for Inkscape.exe is not available anymore on my system.
