Problem getting saved .ai file to open.

Postby boogieman » Mon Jun 02, 2008 3:02 am

Hello,
I am new at Inkscape. I searched for the answer here and read the guide to ask questions the smart way! :) I found the following post:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=623&p=3191&hilit=unable+to+load#p3191

That seems to sum up my problem but I cant seem to get it to work.

This is what I did: I opened an .ai file, modified it, and I believe saved it as a .ai file through inkscape. The original .ai file is 3303 kb, I took a bunch of stuff out of it, but now it is 67 kb. It also wont open in Inkscape, I get the error "Failed to load the requested file" with the file location.

The above post says to change the file extension to .SVG, and I tried to do so by renaming the file. Now the file says .SVG.ai Does anyone have any ideas to open this and get my work back? I really appreciate the help!

Thanks,
Mark

You need to change your Explorer settings so you can edit the file extension. Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools > Folder Options then under the View tab, scroll down the list of Advanced Settings and untick "Hide extensions for known file types. Click OK. Now when you attempt to rename the file you'll be able to rename the file extension as well.
