Color and 3d boxes

Postby TarekFM » Fri Dec 10, 2010 3:32 am

Hi guys, thx again 4 your responses to my earlier question.

I love the 3d box feature, my issue is, however, when i change their color(using fill tool or just clicking on another color) they lose the 3d shading effect they had in their default blue. I m grateful for the software as it is free, however, this does seem counterintuitive. Any suggestions, maybe something I am missing?
Hope you are all well and thx for your response,
Tarek:)

As far as I know, you have to manually select (or create) appropriate shades of color, to maintain the shading or 3d effect.

However, I think it would be a nice new feature. And you are more than welcome to submit a new feature or wish list "bug" report to Launchpad (https://launchpad.net/inkscape) which is Inkscape's bug (and new feature/wish list) tracker. But first, of course, search to see if someone else might have already submitted such a request. In that case, you can add your comment (or click "This affects me too"). And if you were to either find or create such a request, I would certainly add my support to it!

When you select the 3D box using the :tool_selector: tool, it is effectively the same as selecting a group of objects, so any colour applied will be applied to all the faces.

You can use the :tool_node: tool to select the individual faces and assign the colour to each face separately.

When you do that, the last colors you choose is used next time you create another 3d box

You can change the color of multiple objects at once (even if inside a group, or part of a 3D box) by 'rotating' the color using an extension: Extensions -> Color -> Adjust HSL (hue-saturation-lightness). Use the preview functionality to see it, or apply and hit undo.

You can also change your tools to use the same style every time, instead of the style of the last object you edited.
