Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

"Esteemed", eh? That's a lot better than the things I usually get called ;)

That could actually be quite a range of techniques you're looking for - but equally you might get away with just some paths and fills. It depends on exactly what you're trying to achieve. From my tutorials I would recommend reading the first few to get a feel for the basics of Inkscape, then perhaps jump to the ones that deal with paths. There are a couple specifically about manually tracing a comic strip which probably isn't quite what you're after, but the basic principles are the same - just replace stroked, solid filled paths with unstroked translucent or gradient filled paths to get some shadowing.

Again, not quite what you're looking for, but all of my "Greys" comic strips have the Inkscape SVG files available for download - it can sometimes help to take other people's work apart and see how they're made up. My "Elvie" strip also has the source available (on Github) - that's a bitmap comic with Inkscape used to add panel borders, speech bubbles, text and so on - so might be a closer match to what you want to do.
