More printing problems

Postby Kjohrf » Thu Dec 03, 2009 3:46 am

Yet another print job (direct from Inkscape 0.47) that didn't print right. I have a group of 8 objects. Some of them are blurred. I make 3 clones of the group. Some print correctly. Som are missing some of the components of the group. I think it's the blurred objects. All are well within the page boundary.

Could be Bug #376987 in Inkscape: “Clones from blur elements are not visible in exported PDF”?

Yup. I replaced the clones with duplicates and everythin printed correctly. It's a clone problem it appears. Will see if it's already reported when I have time.

another reported workaround (from the duplicate):
I can ovoid this error, by removing all filters before cloning, then reapply the filters, then the clone keeps them in the pdf.

Thanks, but nope. Not using PDF output. Printing directly.

And not using any filters that I know about. Also FYI, printing landscape format on Letter size page.

That bug is confirmed for PS output as well (most likely related to all output involving cairo - EPS/PS/PDF) and AFAIU printing with the GTK print dialog usually works with PS output, using the same routines as for export.

The bug is confirmed for both 'Blur' and more generic 'Filter Effects': «The problem seems to appear for clones of elements with any filter, not only blured elements.»

But I won't insist ;-)

Thanks! Grr. Thought all these types of blur bugs (I reported one close to a year ago) were fixed a number of months ago. Was looking forward to being able to print directly in 0.47. Sigh. Really adds time to printing to work around these bugs. Oh, for a 0.47.1 release...

Sorry about the printing woes.

(someone with more insight about the inkscape printing process on win32 platforms still would need to verify my claim that the same routines are used as for EPS/PS/PDF output - I know there are separate internal output extension definitions (SP_MODULE_KEY_PRINT_WIN32) and source files for printing on win32... but to figure out in detail what they share or not with the generic cairo output - that's way over my head ;-)
