Creating Fringed Flowers

Postby Lucille » Mon Mar 16, 2009 7:06 am

Can anyone tell me the best way to achieve this affect.

I thought if I used the clone tool to create the lines then placed the flower shape over the top and used Path Intersect that would work, but it didn't because I assume the lines are just lines not paths. I don't want to use object to path because that turns the lines into little tube shapes, which isn't going to work on an electric cutter.

What I'm trying to achieve are fringed flowers. I hope this makes sense to someone

Try selecting all the fringes and combine them into one big path: Path > Combine or Ctrl + K.

Then place the flower outline above that big path and do Path > Cut Path. This will cut your fringes in the correct places like with a nife. Now you just need to delete the unneeded ends of the fringes.

If you need to keep the flower outline after the operation duplicate it before using it as a cutter because it will disappear after the opration.

Thank you for confirming what I did was OK. It was while I was selecting and deleting all the end bits of the lines, I thought "is there a better way to do this". I'd hate to think I was faffing around like that when there is an easier way.

I guess there is :) While in Select tool hold Alt while dragging over all the bits you want deleted (make sure you don't touch any other objects). This will select all the objects you touch with the red line, then you can delete them all in one go.

I've just tried that, but I need more practice I keep getting bits I don't want to delete  so I found I could do it faster by just holding the shift key and clicking really fast as I moved around the ends. At least once they are done I can save as a template and not have to do them again.

Thank you for the help.

Thanks gain, I've just had a bit more practice with the red line and it works great so much faster and easier.
