Hi everyone,
I am creating blog page layouts using Inkscape and I was wondering if it is possible to easily create a text box with an image inside it that the text wraps around?
[solved] How do I wrap text around an object?
Re: How do I wrap text around an object?
Do you have this option in your Inkscape:
Text > Flow into frame?
If you do, just create an object that has the shape you need (that flows around the image, or that looks like a rectangle with a corner cut out to make room for the image). Select your text together with that shape and choose Text > Flow into frame.

Re: How do I wrap text around an object?
Thank you for helping me. I followed the link and what you suggested, and it worked. I am now able to finish off my template layout.
Re: How do I wrap text around an object?
I don't understand. Is it possible to get text to flow around an object? I can flow text into a frame but if I were doing some DTP and I had written a paragraph and then slapped a bitmap on top of my text, can I get the text to flow around the bitmap it in the same manner as Scribus or a word processor?
Re: How do I wrap text around an object?
As far as I know you can't wrap text around objects in Inkscape. Im not sure but I think any other vector program also can't.
As you mentioned there are programs that specialize in that (desktop publishing, text processors), so if you need that exact feature you're probably after a different result than just a drawing.
I also use Scribus and Inkscape combined, one for drawing the other for making the final document.

Re: How do I wrap text around an object?
Hi guys,
I know this isn't text wrapping in the traditional sense, but the effect was the same. What I did was I made a square and a rectangle which formed an L shape and made them a union. The missing corner from the L was where my object was that I wanted the text to wrap around. I had to give my L a background colour first then I pasted the text into the L. This gave the effect of the text wrapping around the object. I deleted the background colour from the L shape reselected it and in the text menu selected convert the text.

Sweet! That's an excellent workaround. Thanks for the tip.

You can put holes in a flow text using a flowRegionExclude element, its just not got any ui yet, and things like render updates/editing is still a bit flaky.
The best way currently is probably to flow text into a shape and add the holes to that, but if you want to do the flow region you need to use the xml editor to create a svg:flowRegionExclude element as a child to the flowroot, then add the shapes you want as holes as children of that. Doesnt seem to recognise images as areas, but as the exclusion shapes themselves arent rendered anyway, I'd just draw boxes.
Personally would stick with the editing the shape being flowed into currently, but hte potentials there..
(hasnt been worked on too much as this area of the 1.2 spec is still being changed quite a bit, they took the flow stuff out at one point but it appears to be in again)
