It would be nice if I could download the new manual for free. Expecting us to purchase a new manual with each release is a bit much.

But, assuming the developer doesn't allow that, is there some way to just download the new features?

The release notes are on the wiki:

No guarantees as to completeness... like with manuals, developments often outpace documentation.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

I don't think there is an "official" manual for inkscape. How is your hard copy entitled ?
Classical manuals include
Inkscape, A Guide to a Vector Drawing Program, 4th Edition By Tavmjong Bah that you can by or which is available at
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.php

or the Floss manual

I keep trying to post, but every time, another new message is ahead of me!

Of course there is an official manual. The one in the Help menu. It's the most up to date of all available manuals, at least that I've heard of. But for 0.92.1, it is not up to date.

The current stable version of Inkscape is 0.92.1. So it's a little surprising when you mention upgrading to 0.48.

I thought there was some way to upgrade a manual, if you purchase a certain format of it, but I can't seem to find where I might have gotten that impression. Edit - If you happen to have saved a sales confirmation of the manual you purchased, it probably would have any info about how to upgrade the manual. That's for the Tavmjong Bah manual. It's the only one which possibly allows for upgrades. All the others that I know about, are not expected to be upgraded.

The manual is available for free online. Help menu > Inkscape manual will take you directly there, assuming you have an internet connection available.

The manual written by Tav, which is available online, and needs to be paid for if you want to use it offline, is available for 0.48.5, see http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/ for a list of available versions.

Btw what is the status of the new manual?
There was some mentioning at the irc that it is being in development.
Can we have more info on that?

It's not a real manual, Lazur. that project is a bit larger and I haven't started it (yet). For that project I would suggest using a different platform.

What this was about is a (short, about 100 pages with many pictures) Beginners' guide, that is based on a book written by a long-time French Inkscape community member, who also helped write the other, outdated, Inkscape manual. The guide is meant for real noobs, see https://inkscape.org/en/news/2017/06/06 ... rs-manual/

We have assembled a group of ~6 people who have already done something on the guide. Progress info available on the mailing list:
https://sourceforge.net/p/inkscape/mail ... /35884704/

We need proofreaders (native speakers of English), testers (beginning Inkscape users), QA people (consistency checks), people who make screenshots (on Windows, if possible), people who can do layouting, people who work together for styling the different output formats, people who write suggested new chapters. Info on how to join is available in the linked news article.
