Open NEW.
Draw a rect.
FILE/Document Properties.
Default units mm.
Resize page to drawing.
GRIDS/NEW.
Grid units mm.
If you put a number in the Origins, the grid doesn't move.
You always have to put a dummy number, which seams to have to start with a 1, into Origins before you can put in the actual origin you want.
Spacing works fine.
Grid Bug
Re: Is there a grid bug using mm
That is sort-of intentional as far as I know. Resizing the page adds transformation to the viewbox inkscape uses for the page borders, and the grid remains in the previous location. Maybe because this way the distances won't get transformed globally along with the different page size.
Re: Is there a grid bug using mm
I went back and checked, and it's definitely a bug.
I did it without the resize, but changed the grid units to inch, and it still does it. In fact sometimes it wouldn't clear until I used a 1 in the origins.
Did it again, but leaving grid units px, and it doesn't do it.
Sounds like a bug if it does it in other units, and not px.

Re: Is there a grid bug using mm
I was doing a INK tutorial, and the bug still happens in 9.2. It happened twice in this video.

Seams to happen with inch units, or maybe if you change the units.
Open Inkscape.
File/Document Properties/Grid, set to inch.
Change offset, and it doesn't move.

Looks like the entry box doesn't take the first entry, even if its a spinbox click... click twice, and it starts working.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

If you keep it the same units that Grid box opens with, it works fine.
If you change to any other units for Grid the origin won't change on first entry, and in fact won't change if you add the same value in again, it only works on the second try if the value is different from the first, and then you have to do it all over again for the other origin.

True enough.
Here's my workaround: before entering a value in the box, increment the spinner twice (2 clicks), then enter the value. The two click increment will write to the xml and ensure the value you enter is accepted.
This issue might not get fixed in.92, so a fast workaround is the best bet for now. Clicking the spinner is fast and only typing once reduces the likely-hood of typos or other confusion.
Best,

Re: Grid Bug
I'm not soure if this belongs to this topic.....
If I set units in toolbar from px to cm, units in ruller not change. There are still numbers 25, 50, 75, 100 ..... 200 .....
That means, still px.
And setting in tollbar is not saved. After first change of zoom ratio there is back px.

Did you see the indigo Pony, when he came from other side wall of the night?

Re: Grid Bug
This should probably be split off as a new topic.
That said, the units in the Tool Controls Bar are for the selected object. Rulers are controlled by the page units in the Document Properties panel.
I can't replicate the units reverting on a change of zoom.
What version and OS version?
