Auto-Creating PNG Files In Version 0.48 (versus 0.47)?

Postby lunker » Thu Sep 16, 2010 3:51 am

Hello,

This is my first post, and hopefully not a stupid question.

I upgraded to version 0.48 today, and lost a behavior that I was used to having in version 0.47. I am not sure if this is a change between 0.47 and 0.48, or if the installation just changed some preferences that I can change back.

With version 0.47, when I pasted an image into an Inkscape document, it would create a file on disk named something like "inkscape_pasted_image_20100915_075532.png". I found this incredibly useful for quickly capturing screen-shot images that I could then go back and edit later (or for keeping backup images in case I needed to revert to the original).

With 0.48, Inkscape no longer creates these files when I paste an image. I searched the entire disk, and it isn't putting them into a different directory than before. Is this something I can re-enable?

I know I can export the image to a file after I paste it, but it was really convenient to have it saved automatically.

Thanks!

The behavior changed because new features were added. Now when you open, import or drag an image on canvas you get a dialogue that asks you whether you want to embed or link to the image.

When pasting image data from clipboard it automatically embeds it. To get the images "out" use the Extract Image extension under Extensions > Image.
