Using Inkscape 0.47-3 I've lost recent work many times because of Inkscape hangs and stop responding
Idea is this: Have an option that save a backup copy (just like open office). The save interval could be altered by user (to say once per minute).

It's a feature of 0.47 already. Set it up in Global Inkscape Preferences->Save
