I am wondering if everyone else has to wait quite a long time for Inkscape to start. Please keep in mind I am a sincere Inkscape fan who uses it many times a day.
My current config is a quad core processor with 4 gig ram. Time to start when another instance is not running is 48 seconds. That is to load a blank canvas. By comparison, opening a 4.2 meg file with Blender takes only 3 seconds.
Is it possible something is wrong with my Inkscape config? I have 0.47+devel, Dec 27 2009
What is your startup time for Inkscape?

I also noticed a significant delay in the new version, do you have a lot of fonts installed?

It takes about 10 seconds in my computer.
Windows 7 (32bits) - ADM64 - 2BG memory
It crashes quite frequently because some issue with cairo libraries, but that's another story.

No...not many at all. Only around 950...Is that alot?
If that is the reason for the delay, I will just deal with it. I really do need them all.
Thanks!

Re: What is your startup time for Inkscape?
lol I'd say that's a lot
Can you try testing if the loading time improves without so many fonts, maybe you can try a font managing application to quickly disable a bunch of them just to test if this is where the problem lies?

Re: What is your startup time for Inkscape?
I probaly have around 30 to 45 second delay in loading, on what most consider an outdated pc, although it still suits my needs for the most part. 1.24 gig RAM, Pentium 4 processor. 365 fonts... BUT just now setting up band new blazing fast/powerful laptop (fun 4 me!), but haven't installed Inkscape yet.
