Hi all,
I wondered how I could scroll in such a way that my selected object is in the center of my screen (not of the page). This would be very useful when zooming in on an object. Currently, I have to use my scroll wheel (with or without shift) to more or less center the object. In other words, is there a shortcut or button to automatically center a selected object in my view?
Thanks!
How to get an object in the center of the screen?
Re: How to get an object in the center of the screen?
There's a button on the Zoom tool control bar -- Fit selection in window. That will put it in the center of the window, but not necessarily in the center of the screen. So for example, if you have the Inkscape window not maximized, but the size called "Restore Down", and it's off to the side of your screen...then if you use that button, it will put the selection in the middle of the Inkscape window, not your screen.
But another useful feature of the Zoom tool, is that you can use it like the Selection tool to "rubberband" or drag a selection box around the part you want zoomed. So that moves it and zooms at the same time. The smaller the box you drag out, the more the level of zoom.
Is that what you're looking for? I don't use a traditional mouse, so don't have a scroll wheel, so not sure exactly what you're asking. If I missed the mark, just reply to that effect, and I'll try again. Or someone else might reply.

Jep that's it, thanks a lot . It was quite late yesterday, I must have overlooked that button. Shortcuts "3" and "4" are becoming my favourites!

Keyboard 3 key will fill the view with selected object.
