trouble opening inkscape

Postby joan brattlof » Thu Oct 01, 2009 5:09 am

I have downloaded inkscape and when I go to open it I get this notice - Glib error - This version of Glib requires NT Based Windows. I am running windows XP. If I try to open the front page I get NT based windows runtime error and I cannot go any further. Thanks for your help. [email protected]

Welcome to the forums Joan.

Where did you download the Inkscape installer from and which version is it?

The official download page is http://www.inkscape.org/download

JaapB are you joan? If you're not this may get confusing since Joan is on XP and you're on Leopard...

Anyway JaapB try downloading the '0.47pre3' version of Inkscape from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/

I think some bugs with Leopard were fixed in that version.

Re: warning when opening inkscape

Postby speedyf1 » Thu Oct 08, 2009 8:51 am

Hi
I get the following message at the head of inkscape opening.
"The preferences file C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\inkscape\preferences.xml is not a valid XML document."
Any ideas on solving the warning.
Thanks Speedy

Looks like a crash corrupted your preferences file. Quit Inkscape, rename the preferences file to 'preferences-old.xml' and restart Inkscape. Still getting the warning message?

I too have the "The preferences file C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\inkscape\preferences.xml is not a valid XML document" on XP Pro, Inkscape ver 0.47. I renamed my preferences file and the problem wasn't fixed. I deleted the new preferences file but still get this error. I looked at 'colour management' in preferences settings but the box is already unchecked. I did not have this issue with 0.46.

I use a grapics tablet which I must re-enable every time I start Inkscape and this gets very annoying. I notice when I go to enable this device (esentially an aiptek usb tablet) the 'device' field in the drop down menu is full of gibberish.

Hope this helps to find a solution soon.
