Hello all.
Just getting used to Inkscape.
I used to use Macromedia Freehand quite some time ago. Haven't for a while.
So many similarities! This makes it much easier for me to get up and running in Inkscape.
One thing that I used to be able to do and can't seem to figure out how to do it in Inkscape, is this ...
I could drag the corner of the rulers to a particular point on the drawing and that would make the point zero on both x and y rulers.
Any thoughts on how to do that in Inkscape? There are times I want one corner of the object to be 0,0.
I could drag out two guides, but don't know how to set that to 0,0.
I just downloaded 0.91
Any suggestions, and thanks.
Bob
Setting a zero point ...
Re: Setting a zero point ...
Welcome aboard!
The only thing similar is resetting the document's boundaries -page borders at document's properties, Ctrl+Shift+D.
Needless to say, it will mess up the page borders/viewbox, so preferably create layers containing rectangles you can set page borders to at any time (resize page to selected option).
The coordinate system cannot be adjusted, and it's a long requested feature -as, now it is flipped compared to the svg specs where the origo is at the top left corner. Problems on implementing it include compatibility with existing svg-s.
For the particular drawing you are working on maybe there is some different process you could try.
Like, you can use rectangles as placeholders and resize them, then use snapping.

Oh, that sounds like an awesome feature! I'm so tempted to request it.....

Re: Setting a zero point ...
OK, thanks for getting back with me.
I used it, I will miss it, but will figure a way to deal with it.
I have some other features I have to figure out and learn a new way.
Thanks
Bob

Re: Setting a zero point ...
i'm also (relatively) new to Inkscape.
I had a similar issue.
For which, i selected the entire drawing, and at the top of the drawing in the X: and Y: coordinate boxes i entered 0 and 0.
Like magic the lower left corner of the drawing moved to: 0.00, 0.00
My drawing being 68mm X 100mm, by entering -34.00 and -50.00 respectively, puts the zero-point of the drawing in its center.
