Workaround for Text & Font dialog too big for the screen

Postby Uktrunie » Sat Jul 02, 2016 7:36 am

So lately I've been getting annoyed with the Text & Font dialog. I'm working with text that's tall, and the dialog auto-resizes to allow for said text, and boom, the "apply" button goes completely outside the screen. There's no way to move the window up, as it's simply too tall for that.

Right now what I'm doing is focusing on the "fonts" and "text" tabs and then shift-tab'ing twice, which puts the focus on the apply button. Then hit space.

I also tried docking the dialog, and that adds a scrollbar so it works, but then again I hate docked dialogs. :D

So, anyone has any other way to work with this?

It's Win7 by the way, in case the UI widget set makes any difference.

The OS/windowing software does make a difference: on just about every Linux system it's possible to move a window by ALT-dragging it using any point as an anchor (not just the title bar). This does allow you to deal with windows that are otherwise too tall for the screen. Unfortunately this clashes with Inkscape's use of ALT-dragging in the drawing, so some users disable this option in their window manager. I tend to leave it enabled, and use WIN-ALT-Drag inside of Inkscape instead.
