Re: the share/fonts folder
Fonts have to be installed in Windows, to be used in Inkscape. I don't exactly understand what that fonts folder is for.
Actually, the README in my version of Inkscape says the fonts folder is for Inkscape version 0.38, which is long ago outdated.
"This new folder is part of the Inkscape 0.38 directory reorganization. Please place the appropriate files into this folder.
Thank You!

Re: the share/fonts folder
indeed, the README says 0.38....
so that folder is probably a remain from an older version
i do install fonts into my windows as well, but i dont like it, because the whole system gets bloated with typefaces
i dont need a font like 'Impact' in my OpenOffice, for example
i used to temporarily install fonts with a little program called 'AMP Font Viewer' but it seems, that isnt working anymore with the latest IS version

Re: the share/fonts folder
Somewhere in this forum is a recent message with a link to a bug report/feature request for using fonts from a manager like that. I'll see if I can find it

so should we make a report for 'AMP Font Viewer' as well ?
Re: the share/fonts folder
I would probably add a comment to that report, (like the last comment) about needing Inkscape to work with that product as well. If it should be a separate report, whoever answers will ask you to make a separate report. But this will be the 4th font manager mentioned there already. So I'd say that's a reasonable approach.

Re: the share/fonts folder
I have Trajan Pro installed in Windows/Fonts but it doesn't show up in Inkscape.
Strange because it's a True Type font like most of the others that do show up.

Hi Janne,
Can you please open a properties panel for that font and post a screen-shot?
Example:

Re: the share/fonts folder
Hi, Tylderdurden - The font doesn't have the properties option when I right click on it on it's location in Windows/Fonts.
I tried to copy it to the desktop and by doing so I have the properties option but they are much simpler than what you show above.
I'll take a look at it again.

Re: the share/fonts folder
This is what I get - on the right the Trajan Pro in the Windows/Fonts folder.

Re: the share/fonts folder
Thank you, Janne. When the font is installed to windows/fonts, it might require using the Menu:File>Properties, to see the panel; rather than using the right-click context menu.
From what I'm reading on the web, windows 7 font management is quite different from previous versions. Some have said that installing the font from the desktop, rather than from a network drive or other partition may resolve the issue.
Other info points at some fonts not being properly added to the windows registry for any number of reasons. Maybe some older versions of font management software may not work correctly in win7 and beyond.
I'm sure we'll get these font issues resolved, but it may take some sleuthing.

Thank you, Tylerdurden
When I install a font I save the zip-folder on my desktop, extract the font from there and install to Windows/Fonts.
Trajan Pro works in Open Office, Adope Photoshop and Notepad, but not in Inkscape.
I'm running Windows 8.1
I'll try to find what you are talking about: File>Properties

Re: the share/fonts folder
Ok, from the right click drop down menu I could open the font in a new window and get access to the location information "...common files\adobe\fonts.."
Could that be the reason why it doesn't show up in Inkscape and is there a way to solve this?

Trajan Pro IS installed in the Windows/Font folder BUT has the location set to Adobe/Fonts...I just don't understand this:

My Photoshop is the old version 7 from 1998!

Hi
Janne - Using windows explorer - navigate to the the Adobe font folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts)
mark the fonts you want (Ctrl A for all)
copy to clipboard; Ctrl C
navigat to the windows font folder; (C:\Windows\Fonts)
paste from clipboard - Ctrl-V
Restart your machine.

Re: the share/fonts folder
Janne, the small arrows indicate those fonts are installed using shortcuts. You can re-install them to windows and ensure they are installed NOT via shortcut.

Re: the share/fonts folder
Wonderful - I'll try that because I got this error trying to copy the font directly:
Re: the share/fonts folder
So I'll have to click "yes" to replace them?

Re: the share/fonts folder
I would say yes, but I don't have win7 to confirm exactly.
If the replace dialogue has a checkbox for shortcut, be sure it is set properly for NO shortcut.

Re: the share/fonts folder
I tried this and it worked out fine:
1) I deleted Trajan Pro in the Windows/Font folder
2) I copied the font from the Common Files/Adope/Fonts to my desktop
3) I installed the font to Windows/Fonts from the desktop
4) I rebooted my PC
5) I launched Inkscape
WOO HOO!
Thank you!
I hope this will be helpful to others

Re: the share/fonts folder
Congratulations! It seems to be a very nice font.
I'm wondering how the font got originally installed via shortcut... did a program install the font, or a font manager, was it installed manually, or...?

It's part of the fonts that come with Adobe, Tylerdurden

Re: the share/fonts folder
Well, if it was installed when Photoshop7 was installed on the win7 machine, that would probably explain it... the Adobe installer would probably not add the files directly to the Windows folder, nor add a registry entry.
