I'm an idiot b/c I've looked everywhere, and I can't figure this out.
I'm working on a board game (18xx variation if anyone is interested), and I'm happy with how it looks, but I have no idea how to actually print this out.
I've tried exporting to PNG - no dice.
I've tried converting to PDF - no dice.
In each situation, there are either colors missing, text missing or pictures missing.
I want to print this out on 8.5x11 paper and play!
Anyone have thoughts???
Can't print! PDF? C&P? Help!
Re: Can't print! PDF? C&P? Help!
You're not getting any answers b/c you have provided NO information about your problem and no sample file. Even the best intentioned forum users don't have any magical way to see what's going on at your end!
Your mind is what you think it is.
Re: Can't print! PDF? C&P? Help!
It is most probably not the conversion that goes wrong but the SVG-image you have made with Inkscape. Try to get that one in good shape.
View your saved SVG-image within a browser first.
Or try the Wikimedia SVG check: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:SVG_Check.
Or check for errors on W3C: http://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_upload.
I am on Linux and I use rsvg-view-3 to view whether or not the SVG-image will be depicted as I want it to.

Re: Can't print! PDF? C&P? Help!
Without a sample, some general notices:
When exporting, on 0.48, parts could be missed by poor performance -the renderer lefts out certain parts, usually not the whole image/whole objects, but rectangular parts. Too much filter use, too large resolution can be related.
Saving to pdf, avoid the use of masking -especially with filtered objects.
Use clipping instead.
Also, make sure the rasterize filter effects box is checked when you save.

Re: Can't print! PDF? C&P? Help!
I tried to upload the svg but the file size is too big. I'll try to see if I can't replicate with a smaller file. Thanks, and I apologize about not having the file uploaded. I'll see if compressing it won't work.
Link to the file here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yjs851jfumt33 ... 5.svg?dl=0
Saving to .esp actually looks to work!
Finally, I want to make a map for the game on 11x17 paper. I know I can see a grid on Inkscape to make sure I have the size right, but converting to pdf or another format might make things interesting.
Thanks for the replies!

Hmm there are alot of things that can be improved in that file.
For starting, there are 4778 unused defs --->vacuum defs/clean document in the file menu.
Improved a tad bit:
But to be honest better draw a new image from scratch with the effort it takes.

Re: Can't print! PDF? C&P? Help!
Flowroots in the file. That will cause problems. Unflow them.
Re: Can't print! PDF? C&P? Help!
I'm a serious noob....
I'm not sure what unused defs are. I'm assuming there are items in the graphic that aren't being used that's taking up space, and "vacuuming" will help. I found the vacuuming icon, but I don't know how you found out there were 4,778 unused items. I also don't know how to tell what vacuuming cleaned up. I hit the button and it LOOKS like nothing happened, but maybe it removed a lot of the unused defs???
Flowroots - no idea what these are... I'll have to google.
I short, I took a pdf of a different boardgame and I'm using images from that pdf as a template to write over. For example, if I want to create a monopoly board but have instead of Boardwalk and Parkplace, North Main and South Main, I imported a pdf of the map, changed colors with the fill tool, deleted the text and wrote over the new names where the old text was. I'm assuming there are easier ways to go about doing what I want to do.
So finally - if I want to print my svg, can OfficeMax or Kinkos just print svg? Maybe me saving as an EPS (it looks like it opens find on Adobe Reader), will work...
Thanks for the guidance/advice!
Best,
Joel

The status bar at the bottom of the workspace will show the number of cleaned defs (definitions) after the operation.
Flowed text will fill a defined area... not useful in the current example.
The bucket tool is not like in a raster program, better to use the fill/stroke panel for color fill changes.
The image saved-copy-as a pdf fine for me by removing the filters on ~7 objects (some images were filtered to B&W).
Save-copy-as pdf should be fine for any print shop.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
