A Tiger
A Tiger
I started this a few weeks ago. I had my appendix removed on Thursday so I have a week off work which means I might actually finish this
Creating all that fur was a real treat in the dev version of 0.47. I simply drew one thick fur shape, copied it to clipboard, then used the built in LPE on the pencil tool to instantly create each fur object with rapid strokes using my tablet. It was so quick and easy it is almost criminal
Re: A Tiger
Looks great so far, look forward to seeing the end result.
And the stroke LPE is frikken cool aint it?

WOW!
Nice..
Really good and clean job for my opinion!
Try to add a darker background it will look more threatening.

Re: A Tiger
Thanks for the feedback so far. Here's another snapshot.
This may be a finished head. I'm very happy with it, with the exception of the ears. I think the ears require more details than I wanted to give this as vector. But maybe some more shading like I've used on his face is all that is required.
I'm going to be doing his body next which should be very quick and simple.

i like the eyes and the cheeks best - the ears should be fluffy (or at least hairy) on their outer edge, though.

Re: A Tiger
That looks terrific already, the white under-eye blotches perhaps just stand out a little too much, but I love the fur and the eyes; wonderful to look at.
I'd actually get that printed and put up in my office if I'd made it.
Have you used Spiro splines to generate the fur effect then, or are you talking about a different path effect? I can't wait to get my hands on 0.47 when it's ready (I'm not good with self-compiling programs, before anyone suggests it - things always seem to 'go astray' on me ... )

I'll take that on board. The photo I'm tracing actually doesn't show any fluffiness to the ears (beyond what I've already illustrated), but sometimes bending the truth makes things more believable.

The white around the eyes is a little more muted in the photo, but I've found other photos where that white is even more striking than in this vector (http://oobrieoo.deviantart.com/art/Amur-Tiger-29905822). Tweaking the shape a little might help if it feels exaggerated though.

It uses pattern along path, or perhaps bend path. Basically I draw one clump of hair then I draw a single line with the pencil tool and that hair clump is applied to the path and bent to its shape. So with my tablet I go swipe, swipe, swipe and each time it creates a clump of hair and I can quickly build up a nice fluffy tiger

If you are on Windows then you can download precompiled versions. Read about it at viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1289

Re: A Tiger
This is really a nice vector work ! Do you want to add some hair texture on this?

No, I'm happy with a more traditional vector style with no texturing.
Re: A Tiger
Look, your drawing is PERFECT!!!!
Yeah, there is a littl problem with ears, but it's SOOOO unnoticeable, that you even can leave it as it.
Again -- GJ!
