Text: Editing slowness

Postby tays01s » Fri Nov 16, 2018 4:43 am

When I try to edit text I find Inkscape takes a long time after 'Apply' [change] to be able to then move to the next edit. Is this a known problem?

I've checked my CPU/ memory commitments and their is loads to spare.

You must be using the Text and Font dialog? It wouldn't be surprising that it takes a long time, if you are editing a large amount of text.

But you can edit on canvas, in my opinion, much easier.

All the commonly used features are available from the control bar, on the canvas (since a couple of new versions ago). Since then, I never open Text and Font dialog.

Thanks.
I don't know about 'canvas'; where do you find it?

inkscape has a window sometimes called the drawing board, at the center of which is a page and at the top of which is a control bar that contains settings and controls appropriate to the currently chosen tool.

What is labelled as 'Window' in druban's screenshot is what is generally called the canvas. The window is the whole screenshot, the canvas is the area where you can draw.

The 'Control bar' is the 'Tool controls bar', btw.

The Command Bar can also be located above the Tools Controls (default layout).
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
