This is my first time posting so please bare with me. I am simply trying to boarder a couple of images, figured the easiest way was to draw a rectangle with no fill.
However, the weights of the stroke of the rectangle aren't even. How do I make them the same weight?

That has got to do with transformations.
Make sure they are set to optimised and not preserved in the preferences (Shift+Ctrl+P).
Also, make sure you are drawing the rectangle in the parent layer/root, and not as a part of a transformed group.
-To do that, keep an eye on the bottom indication -shouldn't look as 1 selected oject-rectangle- in g12345 or such. To exit the group, press Ctrl+Backspace.

I'd like to reproduce this problem but can't seem to. What kind of a transformation do I need on a group to make a rectangle with uneven stroke?

^Group the rectangle and resize the group in one direction/out of proportion.

I tried that, it's not distorting. I must be missing something huge

Are you sure you resized the group and not the rectangle inside the group?

yup lol, resized the group using the arrow on the sides of the group. Stroke gets adjusted every time. Do you happen to have a file with an example?

It is very basic, can reproduce it in every file.

I'm using 0.48 on this machine, could this be the reason? I'll try the latest version and see.
