Greetings-
In creating graphics, sometimes I want to include images along with the vectors native to Inkscape SVG.
Inkscape handles them very nicely, allowing me to scale and place them. Looks good.
Output to printer and PDF is fine, at least so far.
But, I need to use my graphics in MS Word.
Yes, you can boo and hiss. But, OpenOffice has some issues saving complex docs as Word, and I have (paying!) clients who demand files in MS Word doc format.
Preferred graphics import formats for Word include PNG, WMF, and EMF. Others can work, but we know that "can work" means "sometimes will and sometimes won't".

in my testing so far, Inkscape 0.47pre3 omits images from output EMFs. When it does manage to create a WMF, that lacks image data as well.
A SVG file which generates a 94kb PDF makes a 36MB EPS file, so EPS doesn't seem like a good idea.
In looking at the SVG, I see that the bitmaps are left external. Can/should they be embedded in the SVG?
Might this be part of the EMF problem?

For now, I can simply export to PNG. I'd rather use vector where possible, though.

You can embed bitmaps with 'Extensions > Images > Embed Images…'

I don't know if it solves the issue with WMF/EMF export though.

had the same issues with all the latest developer versions up to r11604. Anyway, this is a know bug ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/988601 ), and in this thread you also find a link to a patched WINDOWS version inkscape_r11367.zip in post #12.
This version works fine for me, exporting Bitmaps from SVG into emf correct.

Old post but i have the same problem with EMF export with bitmap and the link with the patched inkscape version from iArtist don't work.
