Brand new install of 92.2 on Surface Pro running Windows 10
I am new to this technology, so expect some dumb questions. I DO always research first before asking, i.e. I step appropriately.
Experience that may be relevant,
Technical: began as an Assembler programmer, coded in Lotus Notes Script and Smalltalk (yea, I've been around the block)
User-ish: Have created a million ppts over the years
Tertiary: acrylic painting and I've been known to throw a pot.
I am looking to create new art in Inkscape (to PNGs) that, in turn, a friend will resell on her site. (Read as tired corporate work!)
BTW, where is the Geek Wannabe emoji?

Re: Hey from Brand Spanking Newbie
Greetings...
Indeed, good questions get good answers.
But there are also some skills that will enhance your experience here (Maybe try in this topic.) :
Since you are familiar with MS ppt, it will be helpful to un-learn dragging a rectangle to create text... just click once with the text tool and type. Dragging a box creates "flowed text" a special and somewhat unsupported style in SVG.
As for the wannabe geek icon... if you have made it here, you are already in the club.
Welcome aboard,
TD

But there are also some skills that will enhance your experience here (Maybe try in this topic.) :
- Attaching images and svg files to posts as examples is very helpful.
Linking to large files hosted at dropbox or similar file sharing site can come in handy.
Copy and paste the build information from the Inkscape Menu: Help>About window into posts will provide very specific version info.
Extra points for linking to screen recordings of issues you may have.
Activating email notifications for when you get replies will help you keep the continuity of the topic.

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
