Postby prokoudine » Sat Apr 24, 2010 4:39 am

Hey, Yuriy wrote a new tutorial that covers other 3D drawing topics like 3D box tool and perspective.

Read it here.

Darn, I get to the point where it says "remove the invisible sides"...
(in paragraph, just below the 3rd illustration)
and then can't get any further.
What ? Remove the sides of the cube ? the invisible sides ?
if they are invisible, how can I remove them (silly)
Can anyone clarify this for me ?
thanks

Note; I re-posted this question over at libregraphicsworld (dot) org
and may get some help there with this, but anything else will help too.
thanks

When you ungroup the "cube" you will have all six faces selected. Click away from the cube to deselect them. Select one face with :tool_selector: and hit Tab to cycle through all six faces. The way it's done in the tutorial you need to delete the faces on the bottom and rear left and rear right. In the attached pic I've exploded the cube to expose the hidden faces. You'd want to delete the faces numbered 3, 4, and 6.

Replied both at LGW and here

As the text states, the 3D box is basically a group of six shapes. Three are visible and three are not. When you ungroup, all of them are selected. Click somewhere else to deselect them, go to Wireframe view mode and use Alt+Click to select the sides that you don't see in Normal mode, then press Del for each such side. I'm sorry if it wasn't obvious :)

OK, thanks .... that helps a bunch.
The word "invisible" is what threw me off here, as I took it too literally.
Perhaps if ... the "3 unseen" sides... was used, I would have understood it better.

This has enabled me to proceed, and now I am dealing with getting the guides to
align to the right places so I can get the corners rounded.

Fantastic tutorial here, insofar-as getting more use out of the new 3D box tool.
This really opens up the possibilities for creating better looking 3D illustrations
which I have a great interest in.

BTW, Your new site (LGW) looks great, and I plan to check in there often, for any new
tutorial entries, & thanks again for your personal assistance.

It was a very helpful tutorial on how to draw a First Aid kit. I am new to this and enjoying these lessons very much :) as I am also attending first Aid Training Classes too at http://texasonsitecpr.com.
