No, no, not offensive. I just didn't understand what you meant. I'm not that familiar with programming, which leaves me pretty much clueless about open source, except for the general idea. I do understand that Inkscape and GIMP are both open source, and I think maybe Blender too. I guess I have heard people say that they like that open source trio. And I've heard some artists say that they like using only open source programs. I just didn't realize there was a subculture.
But there are all kinds of open source projects, besides in art/design. Like if I'm not mistaken, isn't Firefox an open source browser? And I have an open source calendar. Notepad++ is open source, isn't it? I think that open source is not limited to art or design or graphics.
But I can see how artists could prefer open source, because open source allows any user to report bugs or request new features. It offers a little more control and input than proprietary programs. So that makes sense
