I recently started creating tutorials on using design applications like Flash & Inkscape. Here's my first Inkscape tutorial:

This being my first attempt at an Inkscape screencast, I'm looking for some feedback on how things can be improved. Please feel free to comment. And while you are there, you might also want to check out the Flash tutorials.

Oops... Thanks for pointing that out. It's fixed now. Sorry about that, guys!

A usual flash video would be better. Right now the memory consumption is a bit high (takes over 400mb in total once it's done). Additionally it would allow the user to seek (eg jump back a bit etc). The video also doesn't completely fit into a 1024x768 window (1027x768 is the most common resolution).

Ah ok... there is a seek bar. It was just off screen.

Btw there is an easier way to create the corner thing... first draw the rect, then draw a straight line at the position of the fold, select both, path->cut path, give it a fill to make it visible again, select the small rect, flip horizontal (h), flip vertical (v)... and that's it.

You might like to point out that you are using the development version of 0.46 for that tutorial. Otherwise it's a good tutorial, but perhaps a little heavy on the download.

@aho: Thanks for the suggestion. I'd tried your method in the past, but somehow prefer this one to it. Probably just a matter of choice.

@microugly: I'm using Jing, which is by far the simplest screen recording tool I've found yet. One problem with it though, is that it does not allow resizing the recordings and has absolutely no customization options. What other tools would you suggest for making screencasts?

Depends on your OS. Since Jing is available for Win and Mac... and since your screencast doesn't really look like Mac stuff, I guess you're using Windows.

I'm using CamStudio for capturing. Well, I'm actually using a handful of apps for screencasts. CamStudio, Aegisub, ffmpeg, VirtualDub, mp4box, mkvtoolnix, FlowPlayer, and a text editor.

edit: Oh and Audacity perhaps.
