How to import a PDF and convert it to a SVG

Postby Col » Wed Sep 30, 2009 12:42 am

I am beyond my wits end at this point. I cannot figure out Inkscape to save my life. Here is what I would like to do. I have two PDF files I would like to
convert into SVG files so that I can then Import these files into a program called Sure Cuts a Lot (Scal) so I can print them on my Cricut Expression. Sounds crazy I know.

I cannot figure out how to import the files into Inkscape and convert them to SVG files. Please, please I need to the letter instructions on how to do this. I know nothing about Inkscape so assume that you are teaching a monkey.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I tried to attach the PDF file to this post but it's not allowed.

First insure that you have a recent version of Inkscape (0.46 or latter should work)
Note that Inkscape can only import one page of a PDF at a time.

The step-by-step guide.
1)Open Inscape, Go to File->Open.
2) In the bottem roight had corer of the screen there is a drop down box, It probably says something like "all Inkscape files". Select "Adobe PDF (*.pdf)" from that list.
3) Find the PDF you want to open, then double click on it or press "Open". This will bring up the "PDF import settings dialogue" (have a look here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jongalloway/2287357249/). there you can select which page of a PDF you want to import, click on ok, and it should import the PDF into Inkscape
4) Save the .svg file by going File->Save AS. insure that "Inkscape SVG (*.svg)" is selected bottem right hand corner, then click on save.

Hope that helps. tom.
