How is an obj added to a drawing?

Postby javierdl » Mon May 20, 2013 10:22 am

I'm following the well-known "INKSCAPE TUTORIAL: SEAMLESS PATTERNS", from Syllie.
At step #4, there's a line that says: "...Any object you add to the drawing is now added to this group."
I don't think I know how to "add an obj to a drawing". I know how to add it to the existing group, but apparently it's not the same. I can do that by double-clicking the grouped obj, while open I paste the obj I want to add. By selecting "Go to parent", I close the group. Then by moving the group I can confirm whether the added obj was indeed added or not. And I can see it is added. But still no changes are reflected on the rest of the clones.
This being said, can anyone explain how to "add an obj to a drawing"?

Thank in advance,

JDL

Your base tile group is the parent of the clones.
You shouldn't open the clone link. No need to close the group. -A guess though, as you can either enter or exit a group, and open a clone link.-
Try the method manually:
Draw a rectangle, group it by pressing Ctrl+G, then clone it by pressing Alt+D.
Then, draw another rectangle, copy it with Ctrl+C,
enter the group by double clicking on it, or
by pressing Ctrl+Enter when selected,
then paste the new rectangle with Ctrl+V.
After that, to exit the group either select an object outside the group, or press Ctrl+Backspace.
