More shrinking help

Postby DjR » Tue Dec 02, 2008 5:10 am

I'm a relative newcomer to Inkscape, and am enjoying it very much! The learning curve has been more gentle than I feared!

One thing I cannot work out is how to shrink an object so that the smaller one "recedes" equally from all borders of the original object. A picture might help:

You can see how the smaller version ("shrunk" using CTRL-SHIFT-drag-corner) will no longer overlap the larger blue original.

What I want is for the smaller image to be a "thinner" version of the original, overlapping it entirely.

There is probably a simple way to do this, but despite searching the forums, reading the manuals, and doing a bit of googling, I cannot figure it out! All help appreciated!

That's why we have forums :)

You need Path inset (Path > Inset) or keyboard shortcut Ctrl + (

You can also use Dynamic Offset, you'll probably want that if you need to offset a large distance.

Many thanks, prkos. That was precisely what I needed! And thanks, too, for the pointer to the right place in the docs!

David.
