I wrote this out in detail twice and it failed to post, so forgive me for being brief this time.
How can I apply textures to a shape? This is kind of a necessity for me.
Snapping. Played around with the settings, not getting the results I want. I want object edges and nodes to snap to each other. How to do it?
[solved] Textures and Snapping
Re: Textures and Snapping
Short question - short answer
Create a texture - import an bitmap or create your own texture using Inkscape, then Object -> Pattern -> Object to pattern. Create Shape, Ctrl+F -> Patterns -> choose your (it should be selected already because it is the only one in this document).
File -> Document properties -> Snapping tab
I hope it's helpful.

Re: Textures and Snapping
The texture business is exactly what I needed, thank you.
As for the snapping, those were the settings I was working with. I guess I will continue to mess with them when I have time again. School
Thanks a bunch!

Re: Textures and Snapping
What do you mean by object edges? Do you mean the path of the object, e.g. the circular contour of a circle, or the rectangular bounding box of that object?
The text below is regarding the selector tool, and only valid for very recent beta versions of Inkscape:
In the first case: you can snap nodes to other nodes or paths. You'll have to select both "snapping of: nodes" and "object snapper: snap to nodes" or "object snapper: snap to paths". At the moment only the "control" nodes will snap, i.e. the nodes that define the shape parameters, such as the two opposite nodes of a rectangle.
In the latter case: you can snap the corners of a boundingbox to the sides/corners of other boundingboxes. For this you only have to enable "snapping of: bounding boxes".
It is not possible to snap boundingbox corners to paths, or nodes to boundingboxes. This is by design.

Re: Textures and Snapping
Path of the object, I suppose. Thanks though, that sounds helpful. I'm not inclined to try a beta release, but I haven't had a lot of time to spend on graphics lately anyhow. Thanks for specifying the settings especially.
