A question about graphics tablet compatibility
A question about graphics tablet compatibility
Hello all! I am about to buy a graphics tablet. If there is already a faq or resource for this, and if so could someone please point me to it? I have a very limited amount to spend, so I am looking at the Manhattan Graphics 6" x 8" tablet for around $70. I have seen a couple of good reviews for it, and it seems to have specs compatible with other more expensive models. I know Wacom is supposed to be the best, but I was looking for a 6 x 8 minimum size, so they are out of my budget. Is there any way to tell if the Manhattan tablet will work with Inkscape? This program will likely be the only thing I use the graphics tablet for. Thanks, any input or advice would be most appreciated!
Re: A question about graphics tablet compatibility
I think you should contact a sales rep for this tablet, and ask about Inkscape support. Or maybe their website will offer this info?

Re: A question about graphics tablet compatibility
Perhaps you should think about a secondhand Wacom. I've got an Intuos 1 6"x8" with a serial connection which I picked up a couple of years ago on eBay for £50 (about $80). It has tilt and pressure sensitivity, like the later Intuos series, but just lacks some of the extra buttons and controls which aren't so essential. I found that by going for serial rather than USB I could pick one up cheaper - at the expense of some extra steps needed to set it up (I'm running on Linux).
Re: A question about graphics tablet compatibility
Thanks, I called the company and they said since Inkscape is opensource they had not tested for it. I think I may try a different approach. I'll open a new thread and just ask folks which pads they have that work. Then maybe I can pick up one they suggest used.
