G'day everyone
i color-traced a pixel graphic which used half-transparence colors in some parts. after tracing all those halftransparence parts were in full-alpha. is it possible to keep the alpha parts when colortracing bzw. how to i change it back without editing the 32layers the tracing created.
Manu.
Traced bitmap transparence
Re: Traced bitmap transparence
If you traced it with Inkscape's Trace Bitmap, then no, you won't be able to get transparency with the tracing. You will have to edit the trace results if you want to replace the transparency. There is a way to get the same colors with transparency back. I donl't think it's very hard to do. You would just Ungroup the results, and one at a time, select each object which color needs to be fixed, and edit the color.
At this point, however, someone else will have to explain how to get the color, because I don't know how. I've read how to do it before, but unfortunately don't remember.
However, if you traced it with some other trace engine, I'm not sure. Maybe other auto-tracers do provide transparency? How did you trace it?

Re: Traced bitmap transparence
Hi Scayze,
no, this isn't supported currently.
You can apply the colors back quickly using the dropper tool, though (if the objects in your scan don't overlap - you need to scan with 'Stack scans' unchecked):
- Select one scan layer
- Switch to dropper tool
- in its toolbar, select both pick and assign opacity
- click on the color in your raster image (make sure the image is on a white background)
- Repeat until all layers are done.
(Ah - Brynn, you answered in the mean time - sorry for repetition!)

Re: Traced bitmap transparence
yeah, we get these simultaneous answers from time to time. A lot of time I'm writing up a long answer, and by the time I finally finish, someone else has posted a short version of the answer.

@brynn: I think in this case, we were kind of complementing each other's answer

I know it's a old thread but I'm new at this and was having similar problems...
I guess I'll be able to work through it with your information
Any how i'm going to keep looking for more information until I master this!
