LibreOffice (LO) is the open-source alternative to products like Microsoft Office, it does have a word processing module, as well as spreadsheet, presentation, and draw modules.
So, when you open the svg file in LO, it can then be exported as a another svg file, but with modified information and formatting. Some of the LO processing includes adding "clip" paths to objects in the image... those clips may need to be removed to get to the basic path you want. Check the status bar at the bottom of the Inkscape window to get hints on what stage you are working on. Eventually, you will have selected a "path with x number of nodes" that you can manipulate.
