Hello there! I just discovered Inkscape in a try to deattach my self from commercial programs, because I will soon get my self out there in the market (as a graphic designer) and I just can't buy all the programs I need right away.
So after I worked a little with inkscape, realized that this program it is very good, and it looks like an older version corel draw, so I get used to it easily.
The question is, we will see any native mac version of it? It will be good to be able to use cmd key without trying special things, and ofcourse we will get better performance.
Another question, I haven't worked but two days with inkscape so I wonder, if I can use CMYK in it, and export it. What worries me the most is the ability to export a file which understands the difference between K: 100% and Registration Black (all cmyk colors 100%).
Thanks
Mac Native InkScape? And CMYK question.
Re: Mac Native InkScape? And CMYK question.
It's my opinion that colour support in Inkscape and SVGs puts the format out of the realm of professional print work, along with a lack of other print features such as bleeds (please correct me if anyone disagrees).
Couple that with the fact that most printing businesses won't accept SVG and not all effects currently achievable with SVG will translate to PDF, which means you need to design with the end-format in mind.
You have to remember that SVG is a web standard, so it was originally designed for viewing on a screen in a web browser. And even today no web browser fully and correctly supports the format. It is being extended to support print use, but I really don't know what the progress or support for that is like.
