*solved*just started happening Inkscape>pdf = no image
Hello,
This just started happening. Create in Inkscape export to PNG, import to GIMP then export to PDF and the paper size is correct in PDF but there is no image. So I tried trouble shooting it and created a quick inkscape file did the same steps and the PDF now has a image. I thought hmmm ok well I'll create a new Inkscape file and copy over the shapes then group save save the file then export to PNG to Gimp to PDF and the same issue I get the correct papersize for pdf but no image. This must be something I clicked any ideas? Also the file size for the blank PDF is correct too showing like 3meg so not sure what is going on.
Thanks again guys
Ed

Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
I did what you said to save as PDF in inkscape and same issue with a blank PDF when opening in adobe acrobat from desktop however the page size is correct and the file size is about right too so it's almost like the image is hiding, also if I open in Chrome I can see it fine. Here are the files:
Native Inkscape File:

Results in saving the Inkscape save-as to PDF

The exported PNG out of Inkscape:

The results of Inkscape export PNG to Import Gimp to Export PDF:

Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
It's still for the same project?
Maybe I wasn't polite enough the last time when I gave you critics on that.
Maybe I am "obviously NOT an artist".
But seriously.
That looks horrible.
I have no idea how you want to use it in that big size.
But I wouldn't worry about that with rgb colours printed, it won't look exactly as on screen.
Because it looks bad on screen.
Live any "artistic" thing out of consideration, concentrate on the business you want to do.
Will that banner get you costumers?
List my home today. Right. So what else? Oh yeah, 1%. Further look: 1% sold?
Not a good tagline.
Oh, it's not a tagline.
What is this all about? You print a banner the size of Texas, yet you have a phone number of the size of a stamp.
Anyway who would even call someone, that couldn't be remembered?
That logo doesn't stand out.
Not in big, not in small, not in greyscale.
Also those houses. I attached you an svg how a house with correct geometry would look.
With a web banner, on the small renders it wouldn't be obvious, but with this size, one can't think you are serious.
Selling houses, but have no idea how to draw a simple drawing of them?
Forgive me if my words are too harsh, but that thing wouldn't bring you customers, so that's worse.
By the way, for the amount of time you spent with it, you could give the job for someone doing this kind of graphic design for a living.
There are ways you can get such for a few hundred bucks.

Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
I've heard worse and I agree with you. So why doesn't show in PDF?
Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
It's probably way too large for our machines. Gimp saved pdf is raster format. Too much data to handle.
Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
I have similar files that are working fine it's just this one and another one. I got over the size issue by going to 100 DPI and also using the "save as" pdf which has been working well and producing super small file sizes. I just don't know why this file and another one is exporting and save as where the PDF is coming up blank. I also tried to re-create a new svg file by copy pasting the objects to the new file and the same issue, then I also deleted objects one by one and no resolve...
Thanks again
Thanks again
Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
Try to save in tiff instead if nothing works.
Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
so.. I open the PDF to export to TIFF, JPG, PNG and says it's too wide ( 20 feet so probably) then for giggles I select to export to HTML and the image pops up on the PDF I think yeah! a work around but, nope I saved then saved-as so I had two files just in case I closed the PDFs and re-opened them and nothing no image again! what the heck!
Thanks again,
Ed

Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
You wanted to have right colour mode on the image.
As you want to go raster, your first thing was to save it as a png.
Then, you don't have to save it as a pdf -as it doesn't works.
A tiff format can handle that colours, and you can set the compression of it.
There is no point in opening the previous pdf to export it in an other format.
Pdf uses jpeg comression, so it would use more quality.
I'm not familiar with gimp's export to pdf function, but if you want to go with pdf, there is another possibility:
using a pdf printer.
Like bullzip or cute pdf.

Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
strange on these files it won't show the image no matter what I do. I must have a acidently did a setting change or the file is corupt and it carries over when moving objects to a brand new inkscape file..
Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
The only accidental thing seems to me is the line crossing the logo on the gimp to pdf version, rendered in chrome.
Guess the blankness is only adobe reader's fault.

Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
hmmm I'll mess around with that
Thank you!
Thank you!
Re: just started happening Inkscape>Gimp>pdf = no imaage
After removing rebooting, re-installing inkscape then rebooting I just did a simplified version and still the same issue I'm going to re-install adobe Acrobat

Hey thaks Ragnar!
Problem is when I send to a printer they can't open it the say, "there's nothing here" : / I did a adobe acrobat repair defrag and reboot which may have fixed the issue. I now just made this with sucess using the "save as" PDF method.

Ima do a little more difficult one and see how that holds,

Although Inkscape will "save-as" to PDF at any length, Adobe Acrobat (at least 9.4) when opening maximum width is 16 feet with a 2 x 16 foot banner. Some of you guys will add more math to this with but his is the basics.
This is why you can open are larger than 16' wide banner in other PDF vierwers but not Acrobat!
: )
That only took 1 1/2 days to figure that crap out.

Hi.
Clever use of the search function on the forum would have saved you 1.5 days!!
(Search "blank pdf")

Re: *solved*just started happening Inkscape>pdf = no image
the way I read it it was still unsolved they thought it was memory size too in the beginning then seem to fizle without someone saying SOLVED here is the problem kinda thing it's got to slap me in the face. I did google the issue you think that monster would have had a answer too that was 1/2 day on top of the 1 1/2 day doing this part.
