winter holiday flowers

Postby brynn » Tue Sep 16, 2008 11:57 pm

Hi
These are nothing fancy, but just something I've been working on. Playing with the Spirograph Effect. Somehow I saw the red and yellow ones resembling poinsettas. Then I decided to add some blue ones, which don't look like any flower I've ever seen, but it seems the color blue is often seen as a winter holiday color, along with red and green.

Image
My plan is to add highlights and shadows, to make them more realistic and give some depth. You can see on the red and yellow ones, I've already done this for the green leaves/sepals. Also I may tweak the red and yellow colors to look more like true poinsetta colors.

Perhaps a bit maudlin to make flowers with the spirograph effect....but still, it's fun for me. I think I'm finally starting to feel comfortable with the very, very basics of Inkscape. Any comments, so far?

Here's one of them fleshed out a bit.

Too yellow? Oh, already I see it needs some shading behind the green leaves...
Comments welcome :D

That's really nice. I think the red petals could use some texturing also, but otherwise you've done a great job making the petals really pop.

Wow, thanks guys!
please put it in a good composition and make some wallpapers

A "good composition" may be beyond my current abilities. But I certainly will keep this in mind, and will be looking for opportunities to make wallpapers with this. If things go as planned, I will finish the others as well, so maybe I will "see" some possibilities later.

micro, I will definitely work on the red leaves/petals some more ;)

Well, I guess I was interrupted and never got back to finish this project. But I still have all my work. Maybe I'll try to finish before next winter. Not sure I can see any wallpapers coming from this project, but we'll see what happens.
