Hello,
When i open a pdf(that contains an embedded image) in inkscape i get bad results.
It seems like inkscape try to "vectorialize" it.
The resulting image is attached to this post.
The original pdf is here http://www.tangoo.it/fondo_02.pdf
Thanks

Re: Problem with pdf with embedded image
Hi.
I belive that is not an embedded image but a gradient mesh in the background.
That feature is still in development, what makes it import as separate paths.

Tried to open the pdf with the latest development build but couldn't open it right too.
See if simulating can help you:

Re: Problem with pdf with embedded image
Hello
Well, I made that tutorial. Basically one of the ideas is apply a blur to a group of paths, and after that apply a clip-path to that group. So, if you want, download that tutorial following the links, because the HOWTO is explained there.
In your case, the background was done using a gradient mesh. In my case, even opening with a PDF reader, if I zoom the image We will see that the background is composed of a lot of rectangular patches.
Inkscape, when importing the pdf, has an option called "Precision of aproximating gradient mesh". If you move the slide to the right you will get more precision on the color of your background, with the price that you will get more patches. More patches means that it will take more work grouping and selecting them for applying a separate bluring. Work, work, work!
The white border that always appear between the patches, it's related to the Inkscape's Intern Rendering System. It's a little hard to me to explain that concept. I consider it as a bug. The rendering system has been improved in the next version of Inkscape (0.49) which is still catalogued as "Unstable". But can be downloaded for your system following the download links on Inkscape's main web page. mmm ...
