Problem with layers? ...maybe...

Postby gpfSeoman » Mon Feb 21, 2011 5:27 am

Hello Inkscapers! :)

I have a little problem with my newest vector and i thought u guys could help me.

Here are 2 pictures which should explain my problem without too many words.

Hope u have an idea how i can fix this without drawing a new line (i think this would solve my problem but it would be nice when i dont have to draw a new one)

Ah, one thing at the end. I exported the vector into the open office format and the marked line was not on the place where it is on the second picture. Thats why i think the "box" is my problem.

Thanks in advance!

granny why do you have such large images

In the first one the object is probably filtered, filters can make the bounding box larger so filter effects aren't cu t off.

Does rendering of the second case change with zoom? Sometimes there are rendering bugs that make objects display incorrectly. Can you attach an SVG file so we can examine it, it's hard to see what might be wrong just by looking at it.

Haha, you think this is large? :P

Hm, cant remember that i added a filter. Are there shortcurts for filters? But like u said when i erase the filter of this object the bounding box will shrink and it looks normal.

When i mark the whole lines and stuff and press the the erase filter button i can see that there are a more bigger bounding boxes. :\

I will attach the file anyway so you can have a look. :) Would be nice to know what filter this is and how it comes.

Phew! Thank you very much. I was a little depressed after i saw this but now iam happy again! :D

Hi gpfSeoman,
Welcome to InkscapeForum! Image

When I select that path, I see in the status/info area (bottom of window) it says "filtered in layer Linien". Blurs are actually filters, so a blur would be the usual culprit. But I don't see any blur on this object. So I opened the Filters Editor, and see that you used a Blend filter, and specifically Screen. (if you open the Filters Editor, you can see a description of the Blend filter) You would have to have known that you did this, and did it on purpose. But since you say that you don't remember, I wonder if you took part of it from the original image (in the Model layer). Or maybe it's something that you didn't mean to keep or forgot to take out?? I tried deleting it, and don't see that it makes a huge difference, although as the artist, I can understand how you might beg to differ, lol.

So prkos is right, there's a filter :D

You can remove the filter by going to Filters > Remove filters.

The Shatten object on the far left in the hair does seem to have some rendering problems, as I zoom it loses some parts of the fill. Not sure why though. Did you create this object in Inkscape or did you import the drawing that was created with some other software?

Heya Brynn, lo Prkos! :)

Hm, the only thing i imported was the picture in the "Model" layer. Every other object was drawn by me in Inkscape.
Cant see any errors after deleting the filters so.... everything is fine now i think. :)

You both helped me very much! Thanks!
Great mods, nice Forum.... i think i will be more often here now. ^^

Just removing the filter effect from the paths doesn't really prevent it from happening again: your layer 'Haare' uses the blend mode 'Screen' which is the same filter effect (filter 3008) as several paths in the layer 'Linien' had applied. Any object you created in or moved through a layer which has a filter effect applied inherits that filter effect when moved to another layer. Unless your 'Haare' need that 'Screen' blend mode, I'd recommend to revert the blend mode of the layer to 'Normal', or you'll have the same problem again when e.g. copy&pasting objects from 'Haare' to other layers.

God i must have been drunk or something. :)
Ok, so i have to take care when i move a shape to another layer and back (and this is very often).
I see.... its a long way to go until i am a Inkscape professionalist. :D

Ah ~suv! I thought it might go back to the layers, and I checked the layers. But I must have missed that one :o

@prkos Thanks for showing how to remove the filters which cause change in BB size. Don't remember applying them but happened on copy-paste from another doc.
