Downloaded Ok but Inkscape will not open ?

Downloaded Ok but Inkscape will not open ?

I recently downloaded Inkscape successfully but I cannot get it to open.I have X11 installed and that "program's icon" always muscles in to shove the Inkscape logo from my toolbox after a few minutes.They both sit happily side by side in my dock looking as if something should happen.When I click on the Inkscape icon the X11 icon refuses to change.
I am obviously missing something that might even be quite elementary but I have no clue what that might be.I am very eager to test this application but I have to overcome this hurdle before I am able to.
I am using a Mac Pro with OS 10.6.3

Any advise or assistance would be appreciated.

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

There are different isses when using Inkscape with a Mac. Please see item #5 in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2037. After you follow those tips, if you still can't get it to work, reply again, and people who know about Macs can help.
