SVG looks different in different software

Postby Proto » Thu Jan 27, 2011 3:14 am

I've created a chart with Chart Director as a SVG. It looks fine in Firefox on Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10. I loaded it in Inkscape .48 on Ubuntu and some of the text was distorted. I fixed it in Inkscape and it now looks fine in Firefox on Ubuntu but is distorted in Firefox on Windows. How do you guys deal with different software displaying the images you create differently?

Welcome Proto! Image

I can't speak to the problem, but I don't think SVG files should display differently in different software. I think sometimes there might some quality issues (sharpness, clarity, eg), related to how the image is rendered. But the basic file should not change.

Could you show us the distortion (for those who will be able to troubleshoot, ie - not me)?

It could simply be an issue with different fonts on different software/platforms. If you don't need the text to remain editable, you could try converting it to paths. I would suggest duplicating the text, setting one copy as hidden or transparent, then convert the visible one to paths. That way you've still got an editable version of the text if you need to modify it in future.

Oh, "text", I missed that!
But I'm still not sure what you mean by "distorted". If it's just a different font, then yeah, what Xav said. Otherwise, a screenshot would help :D

Xav was right, switching it to paths fixed it... Thanks!
