[solved] distorted text around a circle
[solved] distorted text around a circle
Hello, i'm stumped. I have an image to which i want to add circling text. I put the text on path and it lines up on the outside of my image (not where i want it). Then i use the alt-cursor keys to move the text where i want to. Everything then look OK, so i then i save my image as svg. But when i load up my image on firefox or wherever, the text is totally distorted, like the the edits i made with using the alt cursor keys never sunk in, or 'anchored' to my image. Is there a way to 'anchor' the text to where i want it, after i've moved it about using the alt cursor keys?
Re: distorted text around a circle
What FX version are you using? I guess it doesn't pick up on Inkscape kerning.
Convert your text to paths, you won't be able to edit it as text after that, but it should display properly in other svg viewers.

Thanks for replying.
FX as in firefox? (FF 3.0.1). That's right, my image and the text come up right in inkscape, but they don't seem to come out right anywhere else. I'm using Ubuntu, and the thumbnails of my images don't even show the text (same with 'document viewer' & 'f-spot photo viewer') , yet if i open them in inkscape, the text looks just how i want it too.
"Convert your text to paths" - i don't know how to do that. The options under the 'text' menu are: "text and font"; "put on path"; "remove from path"; "flow into frame"; "unflow"; "convert to text"; "remove manual kerns".

Surprisingly, FireFox doesn't have the best support for SVG so if you are designing for Firefox you'll to need avoid using some features. You'll always want to convert text to path, as suggested, purely because the viewer may not have the same font you used.
