[solved] Locking the width of a line *Urgent*

Postby cb951303 » Tue Nov 04, 2008 3:11 am

Hi all,

I need to do some technical drawing for a work. Normally I would use a CAD but I'm currently on Linux and I have no time to test and find a new CAD application other than Solidworks/Catia which are Windows only applications.

I thought I may use Inkscape since it lets me work in metric system (mm) but when I actually tried it I had a strange problem.
I create a line. Set it's height to 3mm and it's width to 1mm but when I change the width height becomes something like 2.853mm. Then I rechange it to 3mm but this time width becomes something like 0.879mm. The question is: Is there a way to lock the width of all the lines to 1mm so that I can work with changing heights?

Thanks very much for this and I'm sorry to tag this *urgent*
Cheers

In select mode theres 4 little buttons on the right hand side of the toolbar. One of them toggles scaling of line width with shapes.

thanks that helped a lot, I still can't get the exact value I want though. This time when I change height the width stays in 1mm but the heigh I entered alters just a little bit. It's not that important though. I can live with that :)

You might want to try using either visual or geometrical bounding boxes (see File -> Inkscape Preferences -> Select Tools in the left pane -> see the right pane)
