Help development by donating to bounties

Postby Pander » Wed Mar 16, 2016 7:50 pm

On BountySource I have added some bounties on bugs and features requests for Inkscape. If you also want to back certain issues to get solved, please donate too via PayPal or Bitcoin. The money goes to the developer which closes the issue.

As Inkscape is open source not much recognition in terms of money goes to the people that build this wonderful piece of software. Today, donating some money to apps on your smartphone is easy and most people have no problem supporting development of apps in that way. Now that that is very common, support the development of Inkscape too and donate via https://www.bountysource.com/trackers/459306-inkscape :tool_pencil:

PS I am not a member of the Inkscape community nor of BountySource, just a user looking for ways to contribute to Inkscape.

Nice idea :) We're currently developing a system which allows us to do this on our website.

We're hoping that some GSOC student will help us with this.

Donations can also be made to support the Hackfest, which is known to bring development forward by a great step (but often, it's that there isn't anyone willing/able to tackle those bugs, and a Hackfest will not change that).

But how do you know when an issue is closed? Don't you need to be connected into the development community, to know when this happens?

What happens if something gets fixed and no one claims the money?

I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about this doesn't seem quite right.

They pull the data directly from launchpad (or, soon, some other site - as Inkscape is going to leave launchpad, supposedly).
For the rest, they must have some FAQ somewhere... ah, here: https://github.com/bountysource/core/wi ... -Questions

(but it doesn't answer the question about nobody claiming the money - guess it will be refunded, though...)

Using our own system will make it easier for us to thank donors, and to keep an overview. It might even save us some money, as there's no intermediary involved.

Oh ok, I think I see how it works. There's still so much room for conflict though.

It seems that the people who put up the money ("backers" afaict) are the ones who decide whether an issue is fixed or not.

Well, more than one person back ban issue. Apparently some of the issues I backed yesterday are almost available in a release. Please, use those to test if all works well.
