Tutorial Missing Step

Postby JohnW » Thu Mar 09, 2017 9:06 am

Hello All, newbie here.

I am trying to do an eyeball tutorial here:

http://inkscapedesign.blogspot.com/2013 ... orial.html

I completed Step 2 (creation of the iris) and my image looks nothing like the tutorial. The tutorial shows a black center and my screen shows a solid star.

I am assuming there is a step missing somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

The instructions seem okay to me. The black centre is the black of the background circle (from step 1) showing through. If there's no hole in the centre, perhaps you didn't set the spoke ratio correctly. Bear in mind that the tutorial uses a decimal comma rather than a decimal point (most mainland European countries do), so if you're on a system that uses a decimal point (e.g. British, American) you'll need to enter "0.3" rather than "0,3".

Also, make sure your stroke isn't too thick.

I got confused for a moment as well.

The trick is to exactly copy the values for the star, then remove the fill (!) and add a stroke.

Thank you both for your quick responses - it was the fill and stroke settings that tripped me up. I am all set.
