[Solved] Weird problem saving as .eps, .ps, .odg

Postby dammarin » Thu Oct 23, 2008 1:13 am

Hello,

I'm on Inkscape 0.46 on a PPC Mac.

I created a shape (it's just a part of it, but the relevant part):

Image
As you can see, it's just a bit of a curve, filled with a solid colour.

If I save it as an .eps, I get this (it's an image from Mac OS X Leopard's Preview app, which first converts the .eps to .pdf):

Image

If I save as a ps or .odg, I get the same thing. When I open it in OpenOffice 3 (the odg), I actually get a white moon-slice over the curve which I can remove!

Interestingly, if I save as .pdf from Inkscape, it looks as it should.

Unfortunately, I cannot edit the eps after I save it from Inkscape and I really need to send an .eps to someone.

I tried doing this on Inkscape 0.45 included with my Ubuntu Gutsy and it does the exact same thing. Is there anything I can do to make it save as .eps (or .ps or .odg for that matter) correctly?

Thanks,

Dam

Are you sure you don't have a smaller moon overlapping the red moon that perhaps has 0 opacity in your SVG? EPS doesn't support opacity so the object will become visible. You can change your display mode to "outline" to see invisible objects.

I did  I even know how it got there.

Thank you for pointing the outline mode to me, I never even thought to look for it (I'm a n00b). But, even after I saw it in outline mode, I was unable to select it by clicking on it.

Having played around with the options, I see I was unable to select it by clicking (drawing a selection box around it worked) because it had 0 opacity - giving it 0,1 opacity made it selectable by clicking.

Sorry for having wasted your time. And thank you.

Dam.
