Hello all, I have a clear idea of the logo I need but I am not artistic, it is mainly text in a circle with the correct text olors I am seeking, can anyone help me with this please? Maybe you can tell me how to get started? The name of my site is "ProSitesDesigns.com", I want the bottom of the letter P vertical line to extend down a little then hook and underline the rest of the text, I then want the last line in the letter m to curve and semi-circle over and back to the top of the letter P, I also will need the same semi-circle on the bottom of the text so in other words the text will be placed in the middle of a circle but the circle flows smoothly from the Letter P and the last letter m. The main key here is that I want the text in "shiny chrome" color, is all of this possible with inkscape please? If so, how do i get started? Thanks.

yes it is possible to do this in inkscape. as for getting started, make sure you've looked at tavmjong's manual for inkscape. then use the text tool to create your text in the font of your choice. you'll then need to convert the text to path. then draw your circle/oval using the ellipse tool . you can then use path tool t o get the lines from the p around the bottom and from the m around the top. good luck.

I did a quick and dirty mock-up of what you described, just to show you that it was possible with inkscape to do what you wanted, as you might get frustrated when trying to do it yourself. I didn't bother with the chrome effects because there are lots of tutorials on how to achieve this look and my goal was not to simply do this for you but to show it could be done.

First stumbling block, using the Text tool I typed the words PROSITESDESIGNS.COM but I need lower case letters, I read through the included manual in Inkscape and it doesn't say how to do this?

There is an Inkscape effect tht does that, look under Effects > Text.

But you can simply type it in lowercase letters, delete or move the object with uppercase letters and create a new one with lowercase.

I need the P, first S and D to be uppercase and the rest lowercase, using the Effect menu, it is not allowing me to do this?

Why cant you just type it that way?

I think Title Case option does it, but why don't you just type it that way with your keyboard?

1. select your text and do Path>object to path
2. to select the nodes on the bottom of your P. then arrow key down.

To get the "hook" you need your ellipse. I'm only going to tell you one way to do this though there are multiple approaches, some that may be more appropriate. this is the fastest way for me to tell you and I don't have much time. Select your ellipse and do stroke to path. Select your text and do path>break apart. Select the P and the hole and do path combine. Now select the P and move your P bottom down to contact the ellipse then select both P and ellipse and do path>union. Now use to select various nodes along the ellipse and delete them. You'll need to do "split path" as well.

First, should I select just the letter P or the entire text? If the latter, when I try step 2, the entire text gets covered by some strange design so I can't see the text anymore?

if you did it the way i assume then the letter p is simply part of your text object and so you can't select only the letter p.

Yes exactly, there doesn't seem to be a way for me to select only the letter P.

You have the entire text as one object. Now do Shift+Strg+K (to break it apart) - some characters will look weird, so you select them (by dragging a selection rectangle over them, because there are actually two paths now) and Strg+K (combine).
Now you can work on the letters one by one.

I really don't think this will be wise for me to continue this, it will take forever, tell me this please, won't it be better if I should simply purchase a logo creation software?
